Earthy Patchouli

I love the scent of Patchouli! It is high on my list of favorite essential oils. The smell of it evokes visions of barefooted earth mothers with flowers in their hair, wearing peasant blouses and long gauze skirts. While it was the perfume of choice with the 70s hippy crowd, Patchouli never really went out of favor with those who appreciate sensual and earthy oils.

Prized for its exotic and deep lingering notes, Patchouli is often used in men’s colognes.  Patchouli is a member of the mint family and bears tiny pink or white flowers. The essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the leaves. Native to south Asia, Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) is an effective insect repellant. It is also good for skin issues such as aging skin, acne and scar repair. In addition it is anti-bacterial, anti-septic, anti- fungal, anti-inflammatory and anti-depressant.  It is a spiritually grounding oil and assists with stress related issues. The sedative and aphrodisiac qualities in Patchouli make it a good choice for a night time massage or bath.

Draw a nice warm bath, toss in some Sweet Dreams bath salts and soak your cares away. Make love not war baby!
