Has something like this ever happened to you? I was driving along on my way home from work one day, enjoying the passing scenery even though I had driven this route a thousand times before. The late afternoon sun cast a pretty golden glow over the landscape and all the colors seemed intensified. I noticed a red dirt road leading off into the surrounding fields and for some strange reason, the line about the red earth of Tara from the movie “Gone with the Wind” popped into my mind. I started thinking about the scene with Scarlet O’Hara as she almost sinks into despair because Rhett had just given her the boot. But then she recalls her father telling her she would always get her strength from the red earth of Tara and she rallies her spirit. At that moment, a tractor trailer passes my car and eases over in front of me breaking my reverie. I pull out and start to pass. To my utter amazement on the side of the truck I read the words: “Rhett Butler Trucking”, and on the door of the cab in fancy custom script: “Rhett and Scarlet!”
Another similar incident happened also while I was again driving. A little sports car passed me with the license plate “IRISHRED.” The driver was a red haired young woman, nothing remarkable there, except that just before she got into view I had been thinking of my mother and missing her. And yes as you may have guessed, Mom was second generation Irish and a redhead. It was kind of like her dropping in and waving “hello, I miss you too.”
I have had plenty of experiences like these, some long forgotten I imagine, so I’m not really sure of their significance or if there is a meaning other than the universe saying “Yes, we are in agreement. Keep on trucking!”
P.S. I was lucky enough to find a photo of a similar truck I saw that day! The photo is from Russ MacNeil’s photo collection. Click here to see the truck.

One day I was thinking about my mom while I was adding up some numbers at work. When I totaled the column it was 82,037. My mothers birthdate was 8-20-37. I started to cry, but it also brought a sense of peace, like she was letting me know she’s near.

I don’t think it matters why these thing happen. As long as they hold meaning for you, it is magical.
